News : The 2009 Christmas Toy Run - more toys on two wheels

We have finalised details for this year’s RideSafe BackSafe Christmas Toy Run and want to do even more for toddlers, children and young adults with life-threatening or terminal conditions. Last year we faced freezing temperatures in mid December, so we have brought the event forward to Sunday 29th November for 2009.

We will meet initially at the Preston Harley Davidson dealership and aim to start the Toy Run at 11am. Their address is West Strand Park, Strand Road, Preston, Lancashire, PR1 8UY. For more details, go to http://www.preston-harleydavidson.co.uk/

The plan is to ride to the children’s ward at Royal Preston Hospital (Sharoe Green Lane North, Fulwood, Preston) and deliver some toys there, before moving on to Donna’s Dream House in Chapel Street, Blackpool with a second delivery. We will also be making donations to Derian House again, although it won’t be a part of the Toy Run on the day as building work would make parking a problem.

Last year we had to use a couple of cars to carry the toys, so if anyone has panniers or a top box, or even a sidecar outfit or bike trailer you could help us with the deliveries. The first Toy Run had nearly seventy bikes and about 12 Santa’s; let’s aim for more of the same this year!

Donated presents should be wrapped and labelled with either boy or girl, the approximate age and suitable for anyone from toddlers to teenagers. If you can’t make it on the day but wish to donate a Christmas gift, this can be left with Preston Harley on the two days preceding the Toy Run.
