News : Honda UK to offer first motorcycle licence to children at Manchester Bike Show

My First Licence provides youngsters with a mock-up mini road system, including road markings, signs and other road furniture, to enable them to experience the fun of riding a restricted 50cc motorcycle in a safe environment. Experienced riding instructors look after them constantly and all safety equipment and clothing is provided and fitted before the fun starts.
Aside of the entertainment value, the scheme teaches aspiring young riders the basics of road safety, helps them to understand potential dangers and gives them an introduction to machine control. RideSafe BackSafe Communications Manager for Greater Manchester, Karen Delaney explains;-
“ Honda are keen to promote motorcycling to the next generation, but this has so many other benefits. In Greater Manchester we have a particular problem with 16 to 19 year old moped and motorcycle riders failing to wear the right protective clothing. As vulnerable and inexperienced road users, they are also at the mercy of heavy, urban traffic. ‘My First Licence’ should inspire parents and for their children, it will be an excellent way to start them off on the right road in an environment that is very safe, great fun and educational “.
At the end of the experience, children will be given a personalised licence that replicates the real thing, as well as a RideSafe BackSafe goodie bag.
Entry to the Manchester Bike Show will cost £6 for children, although Honda’s ‘My First Licence’ experience is free. Participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
