News : RideSafe BackSafe to focus on young riders at Manchester Central

Five to 11 year old children are to be given a unique opportunity to try motorcycling for the very first time at the Manchester Bike Show, at Manchester Central, on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th January. The "My First Licence" scheme, operated by Honda UK and supported by RideSafe BackSafe, will provide youngsters with a mock-up mini road system, including road markings, signs and other road furniture. It will enable them to experience the fun of riding a restricted 50cc motorcycle in a safe environment. Experienced riding instructors will look after them constantly and all safety equipment and clothing will be provided and fitted before the fun starts. Having completed the short course, youngsters will be presented with a replica driving licence and a goodie bag.

RideSafe BackSafe Communications Manager for Greater Manchester, Karen Delaney explains;-
" We are keen to promote motorcycling to the next generation, but this has so many other benefits. „My First Licence‟ should inspire parents and for their children, it will be an excellent way to start them off on the right road in an environment that is very safe, great fun and educational.
So far as teenagers are concerned, we will have a team of friendly, knowledgeable bikers on the stand to talk about all of the things that matter to them. In Greater Manchester, we have a particular problem with 16 to 19 year old moped and motorcycle riders failing to wear the right protective clothing. As vulnerable and inexperienced road users, they are also at the mercy of heavy, urban traffic and we want to help build their riding skills, road sense and confidence ".
The new "Ride of Your Life" film will also be shown at the event, after its successful launch at the NEC International Motorcycle & Scooter Show in December. "Ride of Your Life" offers a powerful, educational message to all motorcyclists, although it has been produced for young riders attending the free Geared & Go Training Programmes across the North West over the coming months.
The „My First Licence experience is free. Participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
