News : THINK BIKE, THINK CHOCOLATE

The annual Wirral Egg Run will again attract thousands of motorcyclists and spectators from all over the North West and the regions road safety officers are urging everyone in the area to ‘think bike, think chocolate’.

It is estimated that 5,000 or more motorcycle riders will start out from New Brighton at around 11 am on Sunday 28th March and travel in convoy to Clatterbridge Hospital. Motorcycling road safety initiative RideSafe BackSafe will be supporting the event and its’ Merseyside Communications Manager Emma Kelly has this advice;-

“ This will be a great day out for motorcyclists, a huge spectacle and of real benefit to many local children, but ensuring everyone’s safety is paramount. As well as asking all participants to heed the guidance of the event marshalls, we must highlight the need for other road users to ‘THINK BIKE’, be considerate and leave plenty of room for bikes en route “.

Motorcyclists are being urged to familiarise themselves with the event rules and the Egg Run route beforehand, by going to http://www.wirraleggrun.co.uk/ . RideSafe BackSafe and BikeSafe will both be at the start and finish of the route, to give motorcyclists an opportunity to discuss local road safety issues and rider training options with the experts.

Merseyside Police motorcyclist Mike Abram also added;-

“ If significant numbers support the event, it will take several hours for the whole convoy to complete the ride and in previous years a few motorcyclists have been tempted to leave the area at unreasonable speeds afterwards. We would ask everyone to be patient, enjoy the day and then ride responsibly on the way home “.

The Wirral Egg Run has been growing for thirty years and donations of money and chocolate eggs are all passed on to local children, children’s charities and hospitalised children in the Merseyside area.
